He must bind himself to an heir before the demons secured within his vessel burst free. Except that Zane is not interested in the female chosen for him. Instead, his desire lies in the man he met five years ago and shared an innocent, heartfelt night with. Eric Diaz had left Zane wanting.

Before they force Zane to bind himself with the female, he seeks Eric and shares one night of passion, hoping to satisfy his hunger for the man. But it doesn’t work, and Zane does everything in his power to keep Eric by his side, even risking the human realm and unleashing hell on earth.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Zane, a powerful immortal charged to protect Earth and humanity with his other siblings, is in love with a romance writer and father of two grown sons, Eric, whom he only spent one emotional night with. The book begins with Zane intending to move on from his one-sided love. After all, he has to marry and produce an heir to continue with his guardianship. Except, what is intended to get Eric off of his mind only cements the mortal man further in his desires. It’s a confusing and whirlwind relationship/romance.

Thank goodness that Eric, a straight man with no experience with men either romantic or sexual, is open-minded enough to give Zane a shot at his heart. Though Eric is adorable because he is stubborn and independent. Zane doesn’t get to just waltz in with his alpha-male prowess and tell him what to do. No, Eric makes him earn it. And earn it he does very, very well, and very sexily. There are lots of passionate scenes, nicely vivid and extensive.

What seems a (not so) simple romance is actually a complicated story. There’s a surprising lot of plot packed between the pages. I think it took me all of two nights to complete the book because it never got dull to the point where I’d had enough. There were always new characters, new twists, new revelations, and lots of varied drama. Eric and Zane have to overcome a lot to be together.

And pay attention, guys! This is book one in a series; the start of world-building begins here. Every character, I think, will be important in their own right as the stories progress. Now, with as many siblings as Zane has, you are bound to need to take notes. I felt like I needed to if only to keep straight their names and what little is revealed of their powers! So, I had to console myself with the mysteries of the characters. We are given hints of their powers and potential, but a lot about the various siblings is left a mystery because their stories will unfold in due time.
